you may want to talk with someone in the Fair Housing dept. of HUD. Unless it is a matter of the house or apartment being too small for a family of 5-6, or if it is designated as 55+ sounds like discrimination on familial status to me. Good luck

Under Article 10 in the Realtor Code of Ethics, it addresses the following: REALTORS give equal professional service to all clients and customers irrespective of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national religion. In this specific scenario, Familial status relates to you. As an agent, we cannot discriminate based on the above mentioned criteria. As a landlord and/or homeowner however, the rules can be bent slightly. A landlord is legally free to set whatever conditions he wants for a tenancy as long as they are reasonably related to his business needs and don’t violate antidiscrimination laws. What he or she cannot do is discriminate based on the Federal Fair Housing Acts which prohibit discrimination on the following:
prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, familial status (having children), and physical or mental disability (including alcoholism and past drug addiction). In addition, many states and cities also prohibit discrimination based on marital status, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
It would not be fair to assume that landlords are discriminating you solely based on the fact that your have 4 children, you may be having trouble with landlords refusing you rent for other reasons. I wish you luck...keep trying, something will show up.

it's illegal to discriminate solely on the basis of your family size.

what was the reason they gave you???

did they give you a reason????

did you ask for a reason???

why do you think it's your family size???

i'm not saying you're wrong, but it's hard to prove.

I agree with Marge. You will want to know if this is the reason they are not renting to you or if there is another reason.

It's really said to hear that you are going through this, on top of Sandy's displacement.

Do you have an agent? What does your agent say about this?
Is this discrimination?

You got to get a good agent to help you out with this. Try to go through a management company
as well.

Best of luck!
