Another reason (and this is tongue-in-cheek) is so that all of the employees and contractors who rely on tax money can afford to live in Rockland with the high taxes :-)

Believe me, I live here and wish they were lower too. But a town needs a certain amount of money to run the town and that number is divided by the number of tax payers, hence your taxes. People just earn a lot more in this area, Police, teachers, administrators, town workers and yes even politicians. What ever happened to one's cicic duty, I don't know! But like the song goes..."If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, New York, New York....
