Why do so many homes in Celebration, FL look more like the Haunted Mansion (ie: broken fences, overgrown bushes/weeds) than MK's Main Street?

Is the HOA inactive? Are that many homes vacant? What happened? This area has been my retirement dream place, but after we visited last week on our annual pilgrimmage to WDW, it looks as if the area has really gone downhill. Sad.

Clearly Celebration has not been immune from the economic woes that have hit the real estate industry in Florida. But to be fair, they do still have the strongest, most powerful HOA in the area. Problem is they can't squeeze money out of homeowners who have none.

I lived in Celebration for three years and then settled permanently in Harmony (7 miles east of St. Cloud). I still get back to Celebration often and while yes, there are some eyesores, it does look pretty good compared to a lot of other areas with weak or bankrupt HOAs. When you've got a reputation for perfect lawns any problem does stand out and I'm not surprised you were taken aback.

Now about those retirement dreams. If you plan on living a Disney lifestyle and going to the parks 5 or 6 times a month, then Celebration still can't be beat. On the other hand, if you're only going to the parks a few times a year, then check out other areas before you decide. I'd helped quite a few folks choose between Celebration and other areas. Let me know when you're coming back and we can set up a day trip.

Keep in mind many families don't have income to maintain home, and may not be physical capable of doing it themselves.

Rpsc,

What you have experienced is unfortunately a direct result of the economic downturn and housing market difficulties.

What some people view as disappointing and unaccepable others see as opportunity....Today's buyer's that wish to take advantage of some of the many great values in the current RE market need to be selective....not only by identifying that perfect home but researching a community's stability and desirability.

The opportunity may still be there but proceed with caution.

Best wishes,
The Eckler Team
