Drive by the property at different times for several days. If neighbors are outside, stop and ask them how long they've lived there, if they like it, and ask if they have any concerns. Your best source of info will be the homeowners living in that area now.

Here are a few ideas of things you can do. You go the the local police department and ask for crime reports for the neighborhood. You can also drive the neighborhood and different times of day, and on different days of the week to see what type of activity you see, what kinds of vehicles are there, etc.. You can also look at the school rankings to see where they place in relation to others. Ask you Realtor to show you some comparable house prices from a year ago, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, etc. and compare them to other neighborhoods in the town.
I hope this helps

Just by driving up and down the street and around the full neighborhood, you should be able to get a good feel for the neighborhood. Look to see if people are keeping their houses well-maintained (roofs, siding, landscape). It is also a good idea to call the local police department and they can give you specific info on crime in that area--if it has been an issue or not.
