Hi DGSmith The North west side of Hickory which is around Frye Hospital, is the Historic District of Hickory. If you prefer to live out side of city limits there are a few in the Mt. View area and Newton (City Limits) has some grand homes also. The question is do you want to live in city limits or have a little land with the home. Just let me know what you would like and price to stay within and I will help you anyway I can. Go on cbbh.com and you can see what is out there.Thank You Rose DuPuis with Coldwell Banker Boyd & Hassell
I would agree with Larry I live in Hickory and am an Agent with Century 21 American Homes, I would be glad to sit down with you and show you what Hickory has to offer in the way of older homes and also older homes that are under foreclosure. I spoke with a girl the other day that her and her husband have an older home for sale and they are within walking distance to the Hickory YMCA, you can reach me through Trulia or http://www.annette.demers@century21.com
Look down Hwy 127 in the area before Viewmont. The area around Glenn R Frye Hospital also. Some of it also depends on your price point also. I use to live in Hickory area and had a restaurant there. Of course your best bet is to get a good buyer's agent to help you out there. I recommend interviewing two or three at least. Some of the homes in Viewmont might meet your requirements but, it will really depend on your taste. There are some nice homes of that age near the YMCA downtown.
If you need help with a referral or have any other questions feel free to contact me through my profile here on Trulia or through one of my other websites listed below.
Hope this helps,
