Which areas of town are better for young families?

We are unfamiliar with the area and aren't sure which parts of town to consider/ avoid. Any tips? I know realtors can't "legally" tell u, so I'm looking for an "off the record" scoop. Thanks!

Thanks Bill. I agree that the kids will probably be more receptive if they are involved. Ines, I laughed when I read your article... I grew up in Miami. I knew that a realtor wouldn't be able to even give an "off the record" scoop, but I figured those on here not in the business might be able to, lol. Thank you both for your input.

Mayo,

Contacting law enforcement the best rout to go to get an accurate understanding of the safety of a community.

Additionally, our recommendation is to plan a family trip for the purpose of previewing locations....not buying. Involve the children...we are currently working with a family with two teenage boys that have done an excellent job including them-we are certain their transition will be easier because of this approach.

Even very young children can offer valuable insight because of their unique perspective of not needing to view the situation by pealing away layers of special considerations. In many cases they can help you break your task down to its simplest form and help you see the real priorities.

Good luck,

Hi Mayo, an "off the record scoop" would still be a violation of Fair Housing Laws - I would recommend you visit areas and talk to neighbors, talk to the local police departments and I love talking to mail carriers and UPS and FED Ex delivery people.....they really know their neighborhoods.

Here's a funny article I did in Miami after getting that questions on many occasions
