It all depends on your child's interest. Different schools offer different programs. Depending on where you live and what school boundary you fall into. You may have to open enroll to change the school you want to go too.

Make an appointment at the schools and then go make an appointment at the school district and talk with them.

It depends what you mean by better. They are all considered very good schools although the API scores actually vary. You may also want to consider the difference in emphasis on different aspects of education, social and demographic mix etc.

You can get a lot of useful information from the individual school district's websites

Also as Carl says, GreatSchools is a great site and offers an unbiased opinion.

You need to see them. Make an appointment and get a tour. For one of my clients, the math department was really important to their child. So they took their teen and made appointments and talked with the math instructors at the schools they were interested in, and chose which school based on the outcome of their interviews. For another, it was the sports program, so they interviewed the coach of their sport and talked to some of the parents with kids on the teams, and made their choice (Monte Vista was their decision).

What is important for your child? In what areas do they struggle, in what areas do they excel? What extra-curricular activities are they interested in? Which school meets your kid's needs the best?

The API scores are just one measurement. If your child is motivated to succeed, they will score highly on the tests regardless of the API score of the school. I have had clients choose each of those schools, and they are all very happy with their choices. Kids from all these schools have on to the finest private universities in the country.

Parents of kids attending these schools are the ones who rated the schools. They obviously love them, are active in the school, and believe in it. You need to find the one that is right for your child, and choose based on what is best for your situation.

Thank you for your reply Barbara. We are currently living abroad and can only be back in July. Is there anyway we can find out those answers from a distance? And how can we enroll the kids to the school while we haven't got a house there yet?

How do you categorize "better"?

If you are looking for the absolute best API score:

California High – 891
Dougherty Valley High – 937
Dublin High – 880

Thank you so much for your answer. Honestly I have no idea how better or worse, because it is very personal. My son, who is currently in great 9 will enroll in one of these schools for the next school year on ward as we will move to San Ramon from overseas.
Another question is: Is it true if we buy a house in the area which says "assigned" when we search for schools, that means our kids will be automatically accepted in that school? My daughter will be in grade 8 next year. How can we be sure that our kids to have a space in the new school? Thank you very much for your help in this matter.
