Hi Hollie:

Best place to buy will be to start with Gilroy, great upside.

Next Atherton,

After that consider Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Palo Alto, then Cambrian.

It comes down to budget, and what is the budget?

Best regards
Ruth

Have you considered what you will do when it comes to financing for you new home? Before you start looking for homes I strongly recommend you get pre-approved. This is important because it gives you an idea of the price range you can afford. Also, offers from individuals with pre-approvals are taken much more seriously. I am a lender based out of California and I have done plenty of loans throughout the state. I would be glad to speak with you to help you get the loan you need so feel free to contact me. Good Luck! Best place to start is to hire an Exclusive Buyer Agent. EBAs only work with homebuyers and there is never a conflict of interest that will jeopardize your negotiating position. Visit http://www.naeba.org for a referral to an Exclusive Buyer's Agent in your area.

I've had a book published on Amazon called Buying a Home: Don't Let Them Make a Monkey Out of You. It'll be the best $6 you've ever spent. Follow the link below.

Best of luck!

Thank you all. Their kids go to college so they have only two people. Commute and potential are the most important.

There are some areas which have not recovered as completely from the economic downturn as much as others.

If the economy continues to broadly improve these areas will probably gain more. In general homes which are less desirable because of commute times, schools, noise, etc suffer from economic downturns first and recover last.

This doesn't mean this is the best place for you to look for a home. For most people buying a home in the south bay area is a learning experience. Buying a home is not like going to the grocery store. Work with a top real estate agent and get better results. I offer a buyer seminar you may be interested in. Call and we can chat.

There are many areas in the South Bay that have good potential. What I feel is important is buying in an area close to things your friend likes to do. Do they have kids, pets, do they like to walk, read, bike, shop, etc. How much value is it to have things you enjoy within a 15 min walk or 5 min drive? Value isn't just in the home's price, it's also in the enjoyment you get from where you live.

Thank you, Hollie:

Yes. Santa Clara is an excellent community. You can get a very nice single family home in Santa Clara for less than 1 million dollars.

Santa Clara has Santa Clara University, which is an excellent University. I got my Masters Degree in Business Administration from Santa Clara University.

Santa Clara is an excellent choice.

Thank you, Hollie:

Yes, under 1 million is possible in the Campbell and Cambrian area for a single family home.

Also, if you are willing to consider a fixer upper that needs a great deal of work, occasionally, you can find something under 1 million dollars around Lynbrook High School in West San Jose, or near Monta Vista High School in Cupertino.

These are all areas which have tremendous upside potential because there is consistently an enormous amount of demand for these locations.

Campbell is a nice area under 1m. A real estate agent would really be your best option in helping you find homes. That is why getting a real estate agent is the first step in the home buying process. The next thing you want to do is to get pre-approved. So, you know how much you can actually afford
