Where, specifically, can I go online to find out about new developments going up in a particular area?

The Realtor database has almost all of them, so i would recommend you contact your favorite Realtor in the area you generally want and have them drive you around to the best choices. It will save you a lot of gas, money and you get professional advice at no cost to you.

You can ask your agent to look into new developements based on the area you are looking into. I know that as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, we have many relationsips with several builders and we are always up to date with the new and up and coming communities all of the chicagoland area.
You may also check out: http://www.internest.com They offer homebuyers 1% cash back rebates on new home purchases. You may also look intohttp:// www.homebuilder.com as well. You may want to do some research on the builders that you find communities you are interested in. Many builders have recently filed backrupcy so you may want to know about their current standings before you consider building. Your agent can help you with that. If you need someone to help you and don't have a Realtor that you are currently working with, let me know and I would be more than happy to help. Thank you Dorthy Pastorelli Wed May 14 2008, 14:20

Here is one site that may help you. This provides you with some builder information for Northern Illinois.
http://www.americanhomeguides.com/ Most of the information that shows up are for the bigger builders, not smaller custom builders. Most of the new construction subdivisions are further out in McHenry, Kane & Lake counties. I looked for sites and many of them are linked to specific agents and you need to register for the sites. As Eric said, your agent should be able to provide you with that information via the MLS. Good luck in your search. Sat May 10 2008, 17:34

Ask your agent to add the field "age" to your MLS search. Then they can send you properties that are coded as "new under construction" or "new proposed developement" or "new ready for occupancy".
You can't usually be this specific on most brokerage websites. However an agent with reasonable MLS hunting skills should be able to do this for you. There are many, many fields that you can search via an agent accessing the MLS beyond what you are able to do yourself. If you are not already working with another agent, let me know if I can be of any help. Sat May 10 2008, 11:44 Web Reference: http://www.esmrealty.com
