I am happy to work with you in selecting a condo in Hawaii but will need to know what you are looking for. Basically, there is an inverse relationship of price to location. The better location, the more a suitable home will cost. In a lesser location, you will find larger and/or better homes at lower cost. It will require some effort to help you decide just exactly what your priorities are as concerns price and location. Once you set a price, it will be pretty easy to show you examples of homes available at that price throughout Oahu. Or, if you wish to make price the variable and hold the location constant, which location to you like most. I can help you look at properties of various prices in the location specified. The key is, however, that we can't work thru this medium any longer. Please send e-mail to me at or call me at 808-738-9333. Thank You!

Hello Melinda,

Feel free to check out our local market at my website (all listings that are for sale on Oahu). Are you looking to purchase the unit as your primary residence, a rental property, or a second home. Our island has areas with different microclimate that offer similar prices. How far from the city do you prefer to be? Is it important to you to be close to the ocean?

Feel free to contact me with any questions. I will be glad to help.

Aloha Melinda:

My name is Mike Gallagher and I am the Principal Broker at Mike Gallagher Real Estate, Inc. I would first go to my webstie at and become acquanited with the Market and where it is headed.

Your email heading says "Home Buying-Waialae-Kahala." If this is the case, it is an excellent are and a mix of Older and Newer Condos, many of them with Ocean Views. Like Frank said, you need to decide about pricing, size, etc. in order to make the best determination.

The most popular 1-2 bedrooms sold in the last six months is at the Mauna Luan followed by The Lalea and Colony, all in Hawaii Kai.

I have posted onto my website:"Trulia Answers" and posted the Graphs for past few years concerning Unit Sales and Pricing for ALL Hawaii Kai Condos. It is an 'eye opener.'

You can reach me direct at or 808-384-9015

I wish you much Aloha,
Mike Gallagher

Aloha Melinda,

I would need to know several things to give you a recommendation:
1. Price range
2. Size in SF
3. Number of bedrooms. 2BR/2BA are priced differently than 2 BR/1BA, for example
4. Investment or for your own use?
5. Why are you buying?

It's hard to generalize about the "best area" but I'll try. The best area is the one that you can afford, in a community that you would enjoy living in. Some stats (email or call if you would like detailed stats by neighborhood):
