Where can I find a Plano/Frisco like setting/resources closer to Dallas?

Asked by Shelby469, Dallas, TX Wed Jul 10, 2013

I relocated to the Plano/Frisco area from the Midwest 3.5 years ago sight unseen beyond interview. I like the family-friendly resources: easy to find local summer camps, excellent year-round extracurriculars, and walk to a K-10 set of exemplary schools. But, now my client base is Lancaster/Desoto/Duncanville. I enjoy the job more than about any other in my 15 year career and the pay is truly incomparable. I am considering a move but hesitate to "give up" the activities (amateur competitive swim and gymnastics, etc), safety, family vibe, resale value, and comfort zone. Yet, the commute is Killer!

My question is, are there parts of Irving or other points within 30 minutes of my work territory (with traffic) that readily replicate that type of environment like Plano/Frisco? I do not need an ethnically homogenous setting to feel a sense of community, have set a price point of 350, am leery of the high risk foundation areas, and performance of middle school are important. Thanks.

Hi Shelby,

After reading your situation.

I think there are a few area you can look into - Valley Ranch in Irving, Coppell and Las Colinas.

All these area have good school and its right around your budget for a nice home.

You can visit http://www.findyourtexashome.com for homes in the area.

There is also an awesome area in East Dallas, Lakewood, and lower Greenville. I am a life long native of the area and would be happy to help you there. Great homes there and a lot happening.

There are some nice homes/communities in Mansfield & Arlington as well as Coppell, as so many have suggested. Coppell is way more pricey, though. You should find a good realtor and explore these areas. Best of luck to you

Thanks all for your input. I have and continue to perform due diligence in the home search process. Coppell seems to often come recommended with the online research.

It seems school performance is the biggest outlier.

Rockwall was not an option as it is too far. I have never had a smooth/short drive from Rockwall going west.

Mansfield is the first place that comes to mind.
Probably a little better pricing than Frisco.
A little closer to where you work.
Still young and family friendly.
Fairly new homes.

Alternatives are Coppell and La Villita in North Irving....maybe Rockwall, but you'd have to check the drive times on Rockwall. Some people hate the bridge and may not be any shorter than Frisco depending on where you are driving.
