What would be good areas to live when working in midtown ?

Asked by Sven_struelens, Thu Dec 13, 2012

My wife and myself are relocating from London to Atlanta in January 2013, we have no children and my wife won’t be able to work for the first months. We would be looking for an area where there is something to do so she doesn’t get bored while I am working and an easy commute to Peachtree street NE / 17th. We are not planning to buy a car in the first months but a moped which looks like great fun. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

Hello Sven--

Congratulations on your new job in Atlanta! I predict that you will love it here. Atlanta is a beautiful city with friendly people and lots to do. And-- though I do hold a soft spot in my heart for London-- our weather beats London's any day of the year!

I am surprised no one has mentioned Atlantic Station, which is a large live-work-play complex located in Midtown. There are rental and purchase opportunities, and lots of things to do within walking distance. Click on the link below.

If you need an Atlanta real estate agent, I would be glad to help you with your move.

Wow what a move.. that's awesome!! Welcome to ATL (in advance) :)
I remember when I moved from South America to here.. what an experience!!

Georgia is a great place to live. There are a lot of nice areas, neighborhoods in Fulton County.
I know of great restaurants, that you will never be bored.. lol :)

I'll tell you what.. you should contact Helen Archer at Keller Williams and I am sure she will be more than glad to assist you on your relocation. She knows the Peachtree area very, very well!!

I wouldn't consider trying a moped here in Atlanta with the type of driving and traffic. If you like the Hyde Park style of living you can look for a place on the west side of Piedmont Park between 12th and 15th anywhere between Peachtree street Piedmont Ave will put you close to stores and places to eat. There are a bunch of rentals in that area and you can walk to work. You should be able to get a nice 1 Bedroom place for around $1300/month with decent amenities.

I miss London, hope to be back visiting in the Spring

You have a couple of different options if you are going to be working in Midtown. I would suggest Buckhead or Midtown. There are many places to walk to in these areas. You are also close to public transportation which would make it easy for you to travel around the city with ease. If you would like to start your home search, you can go to my website http://www.jeffjackson.prudentialgeorgia.com and register on MY HOME FINDER. If you are not going to have a car, then your options are going to be more limited to Buckhead, Midtown, or Decatur areas. Atlanta's MARTA system is nothing like London's Tube. MARTA baically has an East/West and North/South line. The Arts Center Station at 15th St and W Peachtree St would be the closest for your work. Bus service is also availble across the city.

I forgot to mention the rapid transit system, Marta, which has a line in the Midtown area and also an east line. You can live east of the city and use the transit to go to work, sporting events, shopping and evening entertainment. Also it's a great way to get to and from the airport.

The Midtown area would be a perfect place to live. I have a niece who lives in a lovely space near the High Museum, and she walks to restaurants, shops, coffee houses and also the museum and Piedmont Park. The Virginia-Highlands neighborhood is also very trendy and pedestrian friendly. Coming a little further east you have Candler Park, Inman Park and Decatur, all good historic places to live. I'm an Atlanta native who has been a licensed realtor since 1995. Please contact me, and I'll be glad to get you started! Let me know the price range and your wants and needs, and we'll go from there!

Your have a wide range of housing options options in and around midtown. These include single-family detached homes, low-rise historic buildings, high-rise luxury condominiums, and loft conversions. Neighborhoods to consider would include: Midtown, Ansley Park, and Virginia Highlands. Depending on your wants and likes, many more neighborhoods could be included.

Contact me if you would like to discuss.

How long of a moped commute would be optimal, Sven? Or would you be taking public transportation while your wife bikes it? You have a ton of opportunities based on what has been presented here, and in all directions from the Peachtree. Please call, text or email if we can provide further assistance. Good Luck!

Castleberry Point has loft townhomes that start at $149,900 and are centrally located, near public transportation, has a roof top pool and a beautiful courtyard. If this does not fit the wish list then there are plenty of other desireable properties in the downtown/midtown area.
