I did a short sale in March 09. I have 120 day late payments with the lender, however, all other bills were paid on time with little or no balance. After the short sale I checked my credit score it was 658. Since then I have had 3 creditors close accounts that had a zero balance and no late payments in regard to them. Is there anything I can do to stop my score from diving futher? I would like to buy again or should I conclude that I'll have to wait until the next buyer's market wave. Any help would be appreciated.
Dear Myseason, Kris is right..I would NOT advise you to close any of your cc accts as this negatively affects your score.
Hold on... help is on the way....Our congress men and women are working on a bill AS WE SPEAK to STOP these types of lending practises.
It looks like you're not alone, and there are plenty of consumers like yourself that are fed up with the tactics some creditors are taking to save their own skin.
Laws will be going into effect pretty soon to protect the consumer.
I would advise you to contact your local congress person and share your story. I've seen where some of them will go to bat on your behalf...
Hope this helps and I'm sorry to hear about your dilemma.
Credit scores across the country have been dropping, at no fault to the borrowers! This is definately an unethical practice that should not be going on right now
Actually the worst thing you can do is close more accounts, regardless of if you initiate the card being closed or not, it will make your score decline because it makes your available credit decrease. As a credit analyst, I would recommend opening a new card and use it and pay it off every month, or use a remaining card so they wont close it and pay that off every month.
Hope this helps.
The best thing you can do is close any accounts you don't plan on using yourself. Your credit score doesn't take a hit when you initiate the closing.
You may have a hard time buying anytime in the near future because of the short sale. The best thing you can do is work to keep your credit score up and make sure you pay all bills on time.
