What should we know about buying a house in the Corona area? Is it a good time to buy?

Asked by pixiejoy22, Corona, CA Fri Mar 22, 2013

We may relocate to this area from another state. What are the property tax rates and best neighboorhoods to look into?

Pixie,
Corona is a fabulous city to live, work and play in. Click the website link: http://www.discovercorona.com/ to research it yourself.

We have little inventory right now to purchase but be patient as more properties come into the market. Be prepared with your loan in place and expect multiple offers on every home you put an offer on. California is a hot market and everyone wants a piece of it!

I love Corona. It has everything in the way of community activities, good schools, churches, parks and great views. It's a great time to buy a home investment wise. The main problem is our shortage of homes for sale. All the buyers are currently in a bidding war and driving up prices.
As far as taxes, we have a special Mello Roos tax added on to most properties built in the 90s or newer. This tax varies from neighborhood to neighborhood . It was created to fund bonds taken to cover streets, lights, etc. and eventuality are paid off.

Property taxes vary from community to community within Corona, but that is information a REALTOR can get for you easily once you find a specific region. Typically property taxes are near 1.25% in CA., but some of the newer areas taxes as high as 2.8% due to revenue bonds or project bonds to build the parks, community centers and upgraded common areas.

All of Corona is great, but I prefer the South Corona area if you want newer, larger homes. If you like classic homes and warm, friendly family neighborhoods, then Central and North Corona are great. If you like bigger pieces of land, want horses or other animals, Norco is great.

Prices vary greatly between neighborhoods though, so size and price should be considered first when requesting options available.

Happy House Hunting! We look forward to having you as a member of the community!

Property tax in California is about 1.1-1.25%, depending on the local programs. You should know that buying a house now will be a very competitive process and you really need to work with a Realtor to make sure you're very well prepared.
