What's the best area around MacDilll AFB to buy a home?
What's important to my family is safe neighborhood, good schools and no more then a 45 minute drive to work. We are looking at around 300K for our home. Any suggestions?

Hi Pete,
Are you still looking for a home in Tampa? We are preparing to sell our home and it is in an ideal location given the parameters you describe -- it is one block south of Kennedy and two blocks west of Armenia. My husband commuted daily to MacDill while stationed there and enjoyed the morning commute along Bayshore Blvd. The house is a 1920s bungalow with lots of charm and the neighborhood elementary school is two blocks away. If you are interested in this kind of a home, feel free to contact me. Sun May 18 2008, 13:49

Hi Pete,
The Brandon/Valrico area has a large number of military families. They both offer many lovely communites, great schools, and quick and easy access to the base on the LeRoy Selmon Crosstown. I would be delighted to answer any of your questions and help you cut through all the red tape that a home search requires. I just stumbled upon a new community in the Port Tampa area within walking distance to the base. It is called the Landings of Port Tampa and their prices are starting @ $299,000 for a brand new home. You can check out their homes at ashtonwoodshomes.com.

Hello Pete,
All of the replies you've gotten so far are great. You really need to decide on a particular home criteria that's best for you and your family and then rely on a qualified agent to help you find that home. South Tampa, for example, does offer the fastest commute to MacDill, but if a newer home coupled with more home for your money (maybe even a pool) is important to you then Valrico, Brandon and Riverview would be your better options. I have helped military members like you find homes in both locations and they all made a choice that was best for them. Schools seem to be an important consideration for you and it would make a big difference depending on the school level of your child, i.e.. Elementary, Middle or High School. If you would like I would be happy to forward you a link to the schools website locator tool. You can find which school corresponds with a particular address and then you can view that particular schools website and view it's rating (or report card) there as well. If I can help just ask. Just keep in mind that it is ultimately up to you but Valrico, Brandon and Riverview do offer an easy commute and a house with a pool and a garage and a yard and.....you get my point. Let me know how I can help and I'd be happy to. I vote for the Port Tampa area. There are VERY affordable homes near westshore yacht club at a great value. This would be a super easy commute to work.
yoy may also want to consider brandon, and other nearby area's with a straight shot to MacDIll AFB. Thanks for serving our country Pete. Katrina Madewell Mon Mar 24 2008, 23:39 Web Reference: http://www.thebesthomesintampa.com

Hello Pete,
I live myself in S. Tampa, and definetely would say it's generally a great living all around, maybe with exception of S. Manahatthan, below Montgomery. in the 300' range you could easily live in the 33629, 33611, 33616 and 33609; below Kennedy and within less than 45 minutes to MCdill AFB. I do avail some properties for your consideration, or I would be more than glad to perform a custom search. Schools in those zip codes are mostly "A" rated and include Plant High School. I'm just assuming you're in the force, therefore getting a VA loan would be great because of the benefits, just to mention 1.......0% down. There are planty of homes to look at in the $300K range in South Tampa. Unfortunately what you can get in South Tampa for $300K is no where near what you can get in the Valrico and Riverview area. The homes down in this area are usually 2 or 3 bedroom with 1 to 2 bathrooms and range in sq footage from roughly 1000 to 1800 sqft. If this is not what you are looking for then I would recommend going to Valrico or Riverview where you can get a lot more home for your money.

Tell me what your looking for in the $300k. how many bedrooms? Baths? Sq footage? Age of home would be important. Homes built prior to 2004 are more expensive to insure... etc. Need more information to sincerely help you!
