What recourse do we have if a buyers realty agent gives us the key to the property.?

Merrill Irey

Problem............We put over $7000 in this property and now, 3 months later, we still do not have a closing date. Also, we were told that we would close by the end of the week the key was given to us. We are livid.

You have the key but you haven't closed? This isn't normal. Do you have a real estate agent representing you? Is there one representing the seller? Was there a contract on the house? My advice is to consult a real estate attorney and get this sorted out. I can give you a good one in the Charleston area who could refer you to someone in your local market if that would help. Let me know.

Are you working with an Agent? You must have a "lease with the option to buy contract". Read carefully and check for "time being of essence in your contract to closing. The buyer's agent would have put in a date for closing. Stop doing what you are doing in repairs and sit down with your agent. Check to see if the seller is in breach of this contract.Your agent should be able to explain everything.
