I have lately been showing listing in Highland Park and surrounding. I also think that there are possibilities in North Hollywood. Another option of course would be a condo. In Burbank/ Glendale you can find decent 2 bedroom condos in the 250K price range...

FIRST ANSWER

There are several houses for sale in "safe" places throughout Los Angeles County. You have to decide where you want to live, what area, and go from there. If you come up with a zip code, then the answer will be easier.
