Call the fire bureau. 973-728-2880 Different rules apply for battery operated and hard wire smoke detectors. Ask them so you don't fail the first time. Inspections are on Wednesdays. Good Luck

Before you sell your home in West Milford a homeowner and their agent must schedule an inspection with the local fire marsall and have the home inspected for a fee of $45. The seller must comply with state and local fire code and have working smoke detectors on every level of the home and carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of all bedrooms. Once you have passed inspection you are given a certificate of compliance to present at closing.

Basically when you close on a house, you need to get a water test and a fire inspection. West Milford is a little bit easier with CO. Most towns check for pulled permits, fire codes
