I represent a builder who builds a Blue Star Engergy rated home in the Omaha area. For example, we build a 1,664 FSF on the main level/ranch, stone front, all birch and maple woods, tile in the baths, 4 car, coved deck for approx 206K plus lot. If someone is looking, contact me for details.

In general the housing in Nebraska is so cheap that theres little room especially in a bad market for the added expense of the energy star rating in the bottom line . Theres not alot of interset in the enviriorment in Neb. . Theres no emissions on vehicles .Theres no requirements for recycling . At least half the vehicles on the road are trucks. In Nebraska the bottom line is people will want energy star if its cost will be offset quickly by a reduction in operating costs (ie heat pumps). Its a hard sell to get an extra 40-50k out of a house when the exact same new house can be had for 150-200k .

In Austin, the environment as well as utility costs are high priorities for many buyers, so here locally Realtors are actually asked if homes are Energy Star (which almost all new home builders are here). Here, if your buildings were *not* Energy Star, it would stand out.

I think it's always a good idea to show buyers why your product aims for a higher standard, and builders are often condemned for impacting the environments, so anything you can do to help that should be good for your bottom line! I say go for it!
