Dear Harish,

The annual tax rate today is approximately 1.141% of the new purchas price. The homeowner dues vary between buidings. You need to specify which ones.

I live and work as a Realtor/specialist in Mission Bay. In addition to your own buildings HOA, there is a Mission Bay community owners association. It pays for the security of the area, the guys who go around picking up trash on the ground and those who take care of the trees. This is above and beyond HOA dues for your building. The cost is about $32 per month and paid by all owners in all buildings.

THe property tax rate is 1.141% of the new purchas price (google proposition 13)

I inherited a house worth $840,000 in San Francisco, I was told I would have to pay 1% of it's value annually in property. Is that right?

Sally is correct on the tax rate and identifying which building. The HOA's for buildings vary depending on the services. Some buildings offer full service concierge, gym facilities, in house theaters, and more. Questions to ask yourself is how much value do you see in a full service building (a very nice way to live!) or do you prefer in a lower maintenance building. Mission Bay is a wonderful area to live in and you have plenty of options. Be sure to check out the UCSF Mission Bay gym. There is a waiting list but it is worth it!
