The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) has a total of 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools. The BUSD is divided into three zones for elementary schools and two zones for middles schools (with one magnet middle school). Your child's placement is based upon which zone that you live in, but it is not necessarily the closest elementary school to your house. For instance, I know someone that lives across the street from Cragmont elementary in the Berkeley Hills, but her child was assigned to Washington elementary. The schools are comparable, but it's more time consuming to get your child back and forth from school each day.
The district for Claremont Ave., Blvd., and Circle is the Southeast district. I do not know of a Claremont Court.
I would suggest that you check out http://www.greatschools.net. It compares each school based upon the academic performances and also gives demographic information of the students.
Another site is the BUSD, http://www.berkeley.k12.ca.us.
Also, you may want to visit some of the schools that are in the zone that you are thinking about moving.
Berkeley is a great city with wonderful neighborhoods. I hope that your family and you are very happy here!
