Home Buying in Boca Raton>Question Details

Michael, Home Buyer in Dallas, TX

What condo's or communities should I consider in the $900-$1.1M range to determine if moving from LA LA to South Florida is a good fit for me and why?

Asked by Michael, Dallas, TX Tue Jun 12, 2012

I'm a single professional exploring an opportunity to relocate from Los Angeles. I'm trying to balance both the professional opportunity and the lifestyle available to me in this decision when evaluating the move.
I'm interested in either a full service condo or a gated community. Lifestyle, lock and go, neighborhood, and high quality finish out vs size or all important features to me. I like ocean, water, or golf course views.
I'm looking to find the best lifestyle and fit for me anywhere from Fort Lauderdale, Boca, Delray Beach to West Palm Beach. I prefer an area who's age range is 35-50. I'm social & like sidewalk caffes, going out for drinks and nice dinners, movies, good shopping, galleries, working out, playing golf, hanging at the beach and outdoor activities.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations and your thoughts on the area!

Hi Michael. $900-1.1M gets you a LOT of house these days.

Our offices are in downtown Boca Raton, walking distance to everything including the most pristine beach and ocean. We sell exactly what you're describing. If you're looking for a full service condo, we can offer you several options, new/newer construction, high standards for construction, with a lock-and-go option.

Please feel free to contact me and I can show you the best choices for your criteria. East Boca has everything you described....fine dining, best beaches, golf, luxury lifestyle.

Hi Michael.
I think Boca Raton is good choice for you. It is centrally located between Palm Beach and Miami, quiet ,nice, safe place to call home, with beautifull beaches, golf courses, fabulous landscaped properties.
If you like more nightlife Fort Lauderdale will be good choice as well. Fort Lauderdale is Boating capital of the world with the bigest boat show in the world on the end of every October.

You can visit my web site and do little search before visiting SE Florida. There is plenty nice properties in your price range.
Thank you,
best regards!

Hello Michael,

I too have recently moved from Southern California to South Florida. You can't really go wrong with Ft. Lauderdale or Delray Beach. In addition to great social opportunities, the snorkeling/scuba diving are wonderful. Below is a link to snorkeling at Red Reef Park in Boca Raton:

If I can help you on either coast (I still have a California office), please feel free to contact me.

Definitely Downtown Delray Beach would be the answer. Delray Beach was recently named the most fun city in the nation. Lots of sidewalk caffes, and great restaurants.

Hello Michael, if you are planning to invest in a home at this price, I would suggest that you take a few days maybe a week off from work and get down here to check the area out. I think it will be worth the trip. I'm sure by now you probably got a thousand agents sending info. You need to feel it to make sure that you get in the right place. There is a ton to consider, yet we both know that South Florida is no LA, therefore what you may be used to in LA may not be the same here in Boca unless you go further south to Miami.
I will not sell you anything however I will present to you everything that fits your criteria and when you see the right property and the right location you will be able to tell.

let me know what your plans are and email me at ps.mybis@yahoo.com.

Thanks a lot
All the best.

If you're 35-50 and looking for a social life with sidewalk cafes, places nearby for dinner and drinks, then you will probably enjoy living either in or near downtown Delray Beach.

These townhomes and condos in Delray Beach are just a couple of blocks in from Atlantic Avenue, the main street in Delray Beach, and less than 10 blocks from the ocean. So you're in the center of all of the activity that makes this town a mecca for young people looking for a social atmosphere. While these may not be full service, they do fit the lock and go lifestyle and afford high quality of life and lifestyle.

These are three Delray condominiums you may want to consider:

http://properties.jablonteam.com/904421w/index.php?main=subd… An older buidling, but smack in the middle of everything. Some condos are updates, some need work. But there's nowhere else in the middle of the town that affords intracoastal views like this.

http://properties.jablonteam.com/904421w/index.php?main=subd… Newer condos, with up to date appliances and amenities in the building, such as its own pool and gym. Parking is under the building.

http://properties.jablonteam.com/904421w/index.php?main=subd… Larger spaces that have been left open or filled in with imaginative layouts by initial residents. within 5 blocks of Atlantic Avenue and the beach.

I would suggest Palm beach, Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale, downtown Delray or downtown Boca. My advice is do a seven month or annual rental first to get a feel for the area. Something in the Addison on the ocean or Mizner Tower on the intercoastal to get a feel for South Florida. Boca is midway between Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach (30 minutes) so you can drive to each and talk to people. That way you are making an informed decision.

I have been a resident of Boca for 35 years and an agent for 25.

Hope this helps.

Hi Michael,

There are dozens of properties that will put you close to the ocean and close to the action. Easy access to the nightlife in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Delray Beach, & W. Palm Beach.

I have included a link to just a few of the properties available. Many of these units enable you to just leave the building and walk out to the beach. Most have direct ocean views. You will have gorgeous sunrises and enjoy the wonderful ocean breezes.

There are many golf courses you can join without actually living on the course. One premier country club is the Mizner country club.

Please contact me directly if I can be of further service.

Michael,
I've lived in many parts of the country & moved to S. Florida from Las Vegas a few years ago. We visited S. CA often.
In my opinion, S. FL is the best overall location in the U.S. Tropical climate, clean air, many activities but yet more "laid back" than CA.
Your suggested locations are great. I agree with most of that which others have said. My personal favorite for your request is the Boca Raton beach area or Hillsboro mile just south of Boca Raton and Deerfield beach area. Close to many restaurants, shopping, golf, and beautiful beaches.
One other area that is worth considering is Los Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. We just spent last weekend there for a close "get away" and had a great time.
Hopefully, you can find time to visit for a week or so to get a look at the wonderful properties that are available. I would be proud to show you available homes that will fit your lifestyle.
Please check my website: dandohrn.keyes.com for information. Call or email to set a time when we can meet.

Hi Michael,

It sounds like you might like a gated golf course community. I've lived in the area since 1987 and played all the golf courses, Broken Sound, Woodfield CC, Mizner CC, St. Andrews, Parkland G&C, etc. I'd need to talk to you to see which club would be the best fit for you.

Hello Michael,

I live in east Boca close to both Mizner Park and trendy Atlantic Avenue. In my opinion Atlantic Avenue has alot more going on with more choices for residences. You can be walking distance to all the "Avenue" has to offer, the trade-off would be it would not be a "gated" community, by a very secure townhome.

Close by is Boca Country Club that is a gated community, with golf, tennis and clubhouse.

Here are the links below for the aforementioned areas. If you send me your email address I will be happy to link you directly to the MLS system so you can review properties first hand at your leisure.

Dear Michael,

If Jupiter is worth considering then one of your best developments is Jupiter Yacht Club. This incredible waterfront development is located on the east bank of the intracoastal waterway and has it's own world class marina capable of handling yachts up to 65' in length within minutes of the Jupiter Inlet.

Jupiter Yacht Club features 150 luxury condominiums in 5 different buildings with units ranging from 2,100 square feet up to 3,100 square feet. The development is home to well known sports figures Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick from the NFL, Hockey Hall of Fame member Darryl Sittler and one of the up and coming stars on the PGA Tour Keegan Bradley until he recently moved to a single family home on the water in Tequesta which is another potential opportunity in your price range.

If you would like to further discuss your particular situation please feel free to contact me at any time.

Dear Michael,

Having been from Jacksonville to Key West and Naples to Pensacola and most points in between I know the state very well. There are some amazing places to call home but many differences in weather, lifestyle and landscape; stay below Vero Beach on the east coast and Sarasota on the west coast if you want the best winter weather. Two places that you should certainly consider are Jupiter and Delray Beach. Two totally different lifestyles but in my opinion among the best options you will find anywhere in south Florida. In Delray Beach the Atlantic Avenue corridor cannot be beat for those looking for a lively street scene with amazing restaurants and shopping with incredible beach access. The best place I can point you is a brief blog I did about the Jupiter area;

http://tompriester.wordpress.com/2012/05/13/2352/

As a resident of Jupiter, I work throughout Palm Beach and Martin Counties, and a great place to start is by defining your goals and comparing the lifestyles and housing costs of areas that you are interested in. There are so many different options available to us that reside in the state and I have selected Jupiter because of the quality of life that we enjoy. From my viewpoint, there is no finer place to reside that the Jupiter area; from the best schools, to a fantastic economy fueled by many factors and of course the wonderful facilities of Max Planck and Scripps Institute, to incredible unspoiled beaches, unbelievable dining and shopping options, numerous boating and golf opportunities, uncrowded streets, low crime and just the overall kindness of our residents. Recently we were out with a client form New York who commented on just how nice everyone is; and why not as we are truly lucky to live in Paradise.

I work almost entirely as a buyers agent in Palm Beach and Martin Counties and certainly would be honored to be on the list of Realtors® you interview and happy to be of assistance in any way that I can. If you are in the area and would like a tour I would enjoy showing you why I am so fortunate to call Jupiter my hometown.

I hope this information is helpful but if you need anything additional please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Michael,

There are some fantastic communities in each area you listed. I suggest you spend some time in each city before you buy, so that you can judge if the social scene will suit your taste.

Boca Raton has many newer luxury condos that are in the city and are in walking distance to shopping, concerts. theaters and dining,

Please contact me for more information. I would be happy to help you find a great place!

THe Boca Raton/Delray area would meet your needs, but I think you would need to prioritize. There are condo buildings in East Boca close to cafes and shops that would be great for someone your age. If you are a beach lover, there are beautiful condos on the beach- but you may have to drive to restaurants and golf. Our Country Club communities are the finest if you are an avid golfer or tennis player, with luxurious facilities, spas, restaurants, etc. But they tend to be about 15-20 minutes from the beach and "downtown". Most of the Country CLub communities tend to have older people than yourself, many couples and families as well.As a single person, I think it may be better to be in East Boca or by the beach. Also, there are many lovely gated communties that are not in a country club. Of course, it would be best if I spoke to you directly to get a better idea of what your priorities are. I would be happy to send some listings to give you some direction. From Boca, you are 10 mintues from Delray, 25-30 minutes to Fort lauderdale or West Palm. I would say Boca is the town for you- or Highland Beach, a small town on the beach just East of part of Boca. Please call me at 561-350-0440 direcly or email me at karenflreator@aol.com.

Hi Micheal,
Moving from California to Florida is a very big decision. I grew up in CA- San Jose and recently been to So Cal. The weather is a big one, humidity. Also job opportunities depending on your field. Landscape there is no mountains here. The beaches and warm water is a plus here in South Fl. Both areas have pros and cons.

Oh Michael ,

There are so many possibilities .
My sister did just that many years ago , she says it's more humid in Fl and that was the hardest thing for her to get used to . She bought a townhouse in Boca Pointe while still living in Ca and she used it several times a year until she finally decided to move here permanently .
I'd suggest a golf Country Club community , or a condo on the ocean or Intercoastal . We have an abundance of everything you said you liked in any area you choose . Sounds like Boca may be the place for you ..ya just gotta come and look around :))
