Dear Mummum,
Totally different cities. In Rehoboth there is a lot of buzz, 100,000 visitors on summer weekends, boardwalk, restaurants where as Lewes maintains it's small town charm. As for property values a lot depends on where you purchase, homes on the bay in Lewes are over $2,000,000 and homes in Rehoboth beach block $1,000,000 and up. It all depends on what is right for you.

Lewes and Rehoboth certainly have some things in common, but they tend to appeal to different people when it comes to purchasing a year round home. If you are comparing homes in the town limits, it's been my experience that you do get more for your money in Lewes. It all depends on the type of home you want - beach home - historic home - new home - condo - single family - and the list goes on. I am very familiar with both and just recently worked with buyers that were not sure which town was it for them. We looked at both and they eventually narrowed their choice to homes in Lewes. Now they are trying to decide which home in Lewes!
A lot depends on what type of community you are looking for. Lewes is more of a small-town atmosphere. It has a small shopping district, canal with boat slips, a few good restaurants, bay and ocean swimming and the Cape-May Lewes ferry. Rehoboth is small-town, but on a larger scale! Rehoboth has significantly more shops, restaurants, and other entertainment such as the boardwalk. Ocean swimming is available in Rehoboth Beach. Prices are comparable - although Lewes is somewhat less expensive than Rehoboth Beach. I would be happy to assist you in finding a property in any of Delaware's beach towns.
