What are the pros and cons of living in Danville vs San Ramon?

My wife and I are looking to buy a home in the San Ramon school district. There are so many choices in both San Ramon and Danville. What are the main differences between the two cities? Danville seems nicer but you seem to get more bang for your buck when buying in San Ramon. Can someone please give us some guidance? Thanks

Hello Gdn Bear,

My home is in San Ramon. My office is in Danville. Both cities are a part of the awesome SRVUSD, so it comes down to home selection, lifestyle and amenities.

Visualize your home. Do you prefer a newer 2-story? An older rancher? They're both available in both cities. Let's move on to lifestyle. Visualize your perfect Saturday morning. Is it walking along the sidewalk pushing a stroller to get a cup of coffee? Wait. That's a limitation. There's many neighborhoods where that's not possible. Have a dog? Both cities have dog parks, but the one at Hap Magee in Danville has a great Friday evening Yappy Hour and there's a big turnout in the small dog park as well as the large do park. Let's think dining out for a moment. San Ramon has a ton of mid-range eateries covering most every ethnic group, many centered around the Marketplace at Bollinger and Alcosta. Danville has more higher end eateries. Gyms? I prefer the 24-hour Fitness Super Sport in San Ramon over Bally's in Danville (a personal choice). Could I live in San Ramon and shoot up to Ballys? Certainly. It's a short shot.

I generally recommend that a customer look at home style and lifestyle preferences. If you're considering an area, but yourself in there on Saturday morning. Drive up from Union City and see all the area has to offer. Windmill is a 7-day business in San Ramon that has everything the farmer's market has and more. Danville has only the farmer's market.

Oh, one big differential. Danville has an awesome downtown filled with specialty shops, but no big box stores. The Costco with a Danville address is so far south as to be across the street from San Ramon...so if you want to live near Target and Whole Foods, it's San Ramon for you. Yet, Lunardi's in Danville is awesome.

Come up and play "tourist". Find a great agent that knows the area. Look at the options. This is a big decision.

Kindest Regards,
