What are the good school districts in Fremont, CA?

We are looking to move to the area and would appreciate it if someone could could rank the school districts for us. Mission San Jose seems to be the leader, but how are the others ranked? Additionally, are there any online resources where i can get more info?

Hi Sam,

Fremont is a good city to live in. It depends on what you are really looking for. Do you have children and if so, schools must be important to you?

In that case the best schools are in the Mission San Jose school District. However, there are very few homes on the market in that area and they are sold in a few days of being on the market. People buy a home there when their children start elementary schools and sell when their kids are done with high school. I recently had two listings in that area which were listed because their kids were out of high school.

Mission is one area that does not drop too much when compared to other areas simply because people really want to be there for the excellent schools. With that said, there are rezoning issues in some areas of Mission and homes there have gone down in price with those affected by the rezoning.

For the most part Mission has kept its value and as buyers you are fortunate that there are quite a few listings in that area since a few years ago there was very little on the market.

Even if the schools are not important to you, Mission San Jose area makes it a great investment property since the homes/condos/townhouses are easy to rent and the tenants stay for quite a few years to get their children through some major school years

Another good neighborhood is Ardenwood that has very good schools (Forest Park Elementary and Ardenwood elementary) and is a good community close to 880 freeway and Dumbarton bridge.

There is a great You Tube video on my blog about how great the Mission San Jose school district is. Please go to the link below and watch the video. You will get the answers to all your questions on my Mission San Jose blog.

I would be happy to send you listings in both the school districts if you are interested. Our office is also in the Mission area so we would love to help you.

Thanks

Hello Sam,

To check the school ranking, you got all the website information from another realtor.

Now I like to suggest you the following…

• You should check the ranking.
• Call the schools and make sure those are the schools district for a given property. ( once you
find a right home)
• Check with schools if they have space available for the grade level that you kids are in.
• Generally, siblings get the priority when there is a waiting list.
• Many schools have lottery system.
• If your child’s name is not picked in the lottery then you may end up waiting until the space is
available. During the waiting period if you put your child elsewhere (i.e. private schools) then
your child could be out of the waiting list and you have to start all over.
• During the waiting period, you may have to put your child in the schools they assign you.

Once again, only the web sites information is not sufficient to make your major financial and family/school decision.

Sam:

Mission San Jose definitely has the best rated schools for Elementary, Jr. High and High School. However, there are other great schools in Fremont as well.

A resource I use is GreatSchools.net. I’ve attached some links below so you can the see how the various schools are rated by grade level.

http://www.greatschools.net

Elementary Schools (sorted by API scores)
http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/cs_compare/ca/?level=e&a…

Jr. High Schools (sorted by API scores)
http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/cs_compare/ca/?level=m&a…

High Schools (sorted by API scores)
http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/cs_compare/ca/?level=h&a…

You can see which schools are in which district by looking at the Fremont Unified Schools website at:
http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/
http://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/prg/2attendarea.html

Please let me know at carl@carlmedford.com if you need additional information. We’ve been very pleased with our interactions with FUSD. It’s an outstanding school district. We can also help you locate a home near the schools of your choice.
