Hi: Try looking into areas near Ojo Caliente and Abiquiu. There is property available within developments near and on Rancho de San Juan Inn. I think there is one 10 acre property available at the Rancho - and adjacent to the Rancho is a larger development of parcels which are approx. 10 acres each. You would be about 38 minutes from Santa Fe and about 40 minutes from Taos... and only 12 minutes from Abiquiu. I hope this helps you and I hope you find a wonderful property!

Linda-

I have 5.5 acres, with all utilities 20 minutes south of Santa Fe, 1/2 mile off the scenic Turquoise Trail, 40 minutes north of Albuquerque. Many residents have horses in this area and there are plenty of open spaces to ride (Galisteo River Basin, Ortiz Mountains and the Cerrillos Hills. My property is not currently listed with a realtor but is available for sale for $150,000.

Let me know if you are in the area and interested in seeing the property.

Linda,

I would suggest Placitas New Mexico. Wonderful community located between 30 to 40 minutes south of Santa Fe. 15 minutes north of Albuqueque. Prices are more reasonalble compared to Santa Fe. Usually you get more for your money and a new home. Views are incredible almost like western pictures. You must see the colorful sunsets. There are many trails for walking and riding in the area. You are minutes from the cool pines and stream.
There are art festivals, wine festivals etc.
Cost of living is more reasonable. You will have th best of both worlds Santa Fe, Albuquerque. I have sold many homes to former Santa Fe residents not only because of the economy but convenience. They wanted to be close the University, hospitals and plays.
You must see the wild horses that run the ranges of Plactias!
For more information please view my web address below. Type in Placitas New Mexico. There are other areas that might be of interest such as Pako, San Pedro.
Happy Trails,

Hi Linda - I saw several people have already answered your question, but thought I would add "my 2cents worth". I have a new horse property listing that is about 10 min. to town - with 5 acres and a wonderful home. You can view it at http://www.52callecarla.com but its a bit higher in price than you want to spend. Reason I'm writing tho, is that I've been targeting my marketing to several horse publications, facilities, etc. to make sure we're maximizing our marketing dollars and we've gotten a fabulous response in showings, etc.

If you're interested in some of these publications that list horse properties both locally and around the area, let me know and I'll forward the links to you. There are lots of great properties out there for horses and many in the south end of town - near Madrid, off Highway 14 are within the range of price that you are looking for. i'd be happy to forward a few of the listings off MLS to you. Thanks again & best of luck! you are welcome to email me at your convenience or go to my website - http://www.homesforsaleinsantafe.com

Linda,
There are several areas surrounding downtown Santa Fe which allow for horses. Some are within 10-15 minutes of the downtown area. There is the Arroyo Hondo areas, Eldorado area, Hwy 14 area, Tesuque area and even a few which have been grandfathered in - in the Sol y Lomas area. Each of these areas has homes varying in price and views.
Let me know if you would like any further information on each of the areas.
My best,

ok, Linda - now I have some more data! La Cienega is still a great location - the other one is just outside Eldorado, south of Santa Fe. Similar feel, great access to horse riding land - but closer to stores, etc. Can you email me, at frank@omahony.com and I can talk specifics?
