It is correct that the first step is figuring out what you are qualified for and what home price you can afford by speaking to a lender or your financial adviser as the case may be. Second, I would find a Realtor who you are comfortable with and who knows the area in which you would like to purchase well. A good Realtor will be able to help advise you on each neighborhood and even to identify areas that you might not be familiar with but may end up loving.
