Lauren: I hope that you don't have to drive during rush hour traffic to get from Pleasanton to Palo Alto and back again. You will not like the commute. The drive is 33 - 34 miles either way you go - (1) over the Dumbarton Bridge or (2) down 880 and across 237 and then up 101. It will likely take you an hour to an hour and a quarter on a normal day (heavy traffic) to do that commute. I'd love to help you find a home in Pleasanton (and it can be a great area for a family), but, if I'm going to shoot straight, I'd think long and hard about that commute every day if I were you. Sometimes, agents just want to make a buck and aren't thinking about the person and try to be helpful. Now, if you are doing the commute in off hours or you simply don't mind that type of driving, then I apologize for discouraging you.

Thank you all for your responses. I should clarify what range I am looking for a house in. When I say "not too pricey" I am thinking between 600,000 and 750,000. I live in Redwood City where $629 got me a very small 3 bedroom 1 bath and my husband and I would like to live somewhere safe and a great place to raise a family. I work in Palo Alto and am considering living in Pleasanton and commuting. I would like to live in a great family friendly neighborhood that we will stay for a long long time but don't know if my budget will allow that. Hopefully that gives everyone more information as to what I am looking for. Thank you!

Hello Lauren,

I remember driving around with my husband when we finished college (about 27 years ago!!) and as we passed a particular neighborhood he exclaimed: "These are $100,000 dollar homes!!!!"

To a young couple, just out of school, at that time, those homes were "pricey". So "pricey" is a relative term!

Pleasanton is a wonderful town, with neighborhoods in all price ranges. We have been in Pleasanton for more than 20 years, raised our children here, and we love it.

We have a ton of information on Plasanton and every available home for sale (updated every 30 minutes) at our website:
http://www.pleasantonhomesz.com

Feel free to look around and please give me a call at your convenience to discuss any questions you may have.

Lauren -

You can't go wrong in Pleasanton. It all gets down to what you consider "not too pricey". In general, there are no bad neighborhoods in Pleasanton. Much depends on your preferences for the age of the house, proximity to schools, commute accessibility, etc.

Here is a link to my Pleasanton Neighborhood Guide, which will show you all of the neighborhoods in Pleasanton. This is a great place to start

Hi Laurenb,
As a Realtor in Pleasanton and a mother raising my children here, this is a wonderful place to raise a family. There are several neighborhoods that would meet your requirements, but "not too pricey" is subjective. We have some very nice "family oriented" neighborhoods in most price ranges. To name a few possible neighborhoods would include Val Vista, Del Prado, Shadow Cliff, and Pleasanton Meadows. I could provide you with more information and a better recommendation if I understood exactly what you are looking for. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me at 925-998-0382. Good luck to you and I think you will be really happy raising your family here.
