What's it like to own and maintain a residential pool in N. Texas?

We'll be moving to the Carrollton area next summer after 40 years in Southern California where pool maintenance is not a big deal. Thanks for responses.

Pools come in many varieties, fiberglass, gunite, above and in ground, chlorine or salt. The biggest issue will be the age of the pool and surrounding landscaping. Big trees provide great shade in summer but leaves in Fall. With the soil conditions in this area, pools and foundations settle over time and this can damage pvc plumbing. It's hot here, so pools are a great escape. We also have numerous lakes available, and if you don't want the hassle of maintaining a pool, consider a planned community with community pools.

My guess is that is about the same.
Maybe the main difference is that most people only swim from May to September and don't heat during the winter....Heating could cost several hundred a month depending on how warm you want it and outside temp.
Lots of homes here have installed chlorine based pools, so one decision is if you want to maintain during the off months. I hear people advocate both ways. Saltwater conversion probably runs about $1200 and is much simpler to maintain all year round. There are also plenty of pool services around that can maintain on a year round basis for you.

Welcome to Texas
