In an adult community you will have a Homeowners Association, and in most cases they will take care of yard maintenance.

But there are many homes available with a yard outside of these communities. Many ranch style homes, and colonials or capes have master bedrooms on the first floor.

There are also several communities in southern Ocean County that might suit you. In addition to Barnegat, you might want to consider Manahawkin (Stafford Township), Little Egg Harbor, Tuckerton and Waretown (Ocean Township).
