We will be first time home buyers and want to get a house before the end of the year to take advantage of the
$8k rebate, but since I am a travel nurse, my husband hasn't had a job in the last 7 monts, will this hurt us when applying for a loan?

It depends on if you qualify on your income alone. Many nurses do. The house will be in your name but this is a comunity property state. You can add his name to the deed later.
