Hi Jess, I will be a little biased here, as Tucker is my home town and I love it! With it's close proximity to Atlanta and the 285 and 85, I really think that Tucker is a great location. The neighborhoods are very diverse, you will find some 1930's bungalows, a lot of ranches on huge lots, most of the high end homes are found in Smoke Rise . Prices are going up but there are still some deals to be had. As James said, the prices of homes usually are dictated by the school district that they are in and Livsey and Midvale Elementary districts are in the top 10 for Dekalb County, Livsey being higher rated. There are also plans to redevelop the entire downtown Tucker area with single family, townhomes, condos, retail, a park, etc. Visit http://www.tuckerlci.org to see the concept plans and read the meeting minutes.
If you would like to meet with me, I would be glad to give you a hometown tour!
Jess,
There are some good neighborhoods in Tucker. My sister has lived there for 30 + years in two different locations. Some of the communities are very traditional with wooded tree lined streets and quaint homes others are newer subdivisions with higher price tags.
The Parkview schools dist. is well known in the area as one of the top schools, but many other schools in surrounding areas are well respected. Many of the higher priced homes and more sought after neighborhoods will be dictated by the school district in this area. Be sure to keep that in mind when searching for homes in Tucker.
Other areas to consider would be Lilburn, Snellville, and Lawrenceville. The same holds true about keeping an eye on the schools. If you would like some assistance searching for your new home be sure to contact me. I would be glad to help you find your new home here.
Jess,
Tucker is very hit or miss in my opinion. I like a lot of the older neighborhoods like Smoke Tree (or is it Rise) but the school systems could be better. It's a nice quiet city to live in (quaint actually - near downtown) that is very convenient to Atlanta. There are parks and recreational things to do there.
The biggest negative is affordable NEW construction and the school systems.
Most people I know either love Tucker or hate it. So it does have that quality.
Check Out HomeScenes.com for Metro Atlanta area virtual tours of homes for sale. Save gas and time! Agent contact information on each tour! Feed Back option on each tour. Great way to search homes for sale in different Atlanta areas. North Florida too! Good Luck!
Tucker encompasses a lot of neighborhoods of varying age and price range. It is convenient to downtown, main transportation arteries, hospitals and public transportation. As a Tucker resident who has sold homes in this community for many years, I have seen positive changes in the area and currently a boom of new businesses and subdivisions of new homes that have brought a renewed excitement to the area. Housing here is family oriented with good amenities such as swim/tennis communities and stable environments. Prices have escallated over the past few years. I'll be happy to help you get more information on the community.
Joyce
