We're looking at buying a house in either the Talbot Park or Maplewood area. Any opinions?

about these two neighborhoods (safety, schools, resale value of home). Love the Maplewood house more. It also costs more, but we heard Maplewood was a "transitional" area. Please advise before we buy a house in the wrong neighborhood!

Opinions are nice, but when it comes to the safety and education of your children, facts are what you need.
Here are some links to unbiased sights that will give you the information you need:

Snohomish Co Police: http://www.ci.snohomish.wa.us/police/police.htm
Registered Sex Offenders: http://www.familywatchdog.us

Washington State Report Cards: http://www.reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/summary.aspx

As for resale, only time will tell. The Western portion of Edmonds has been and will continue to be a desirable area for many people.

If I can help answer anymore questions please let me know.

We currently live in the Maplewood neighborhood. There are many older homes with lots of character, but some of the smaller ones are being replaced with beautifully designed new homes. This is perhaps the "transition" we are seeing here. It is a very walkable area, and we walk downtown from here often. The home values here are a great investment, but what makes it really nice are the neighbors and quiet.

First off who gave you your information as there are many neighborhoods within the Edmonds are that are just as nice if not more superior than the two areas you mentioned. I would ask what is most important to you....... Are you looking for a classic type neighborhood where you know your neighbors, enjoy block parries and watch out for one another when on vacation? Do you want a culdesac for children to play? are you interested n the stats on schools? Do you want privacy? As a 20 year resident of the Edmonds area and a lifetime resident of the Pacifi Northwest I can help you find the best neighborhood for you and your family at the right price. Please copntact me if you are interested in learning more.

Both Talbot Park & Maplewood are considered excellent neighborhoods. I'm puzzled by the term "transitional" for Maplewood. Could you please clarify what you mean by that?

Let’s go ahead and consider the following; Maplewood is in walking distance to downtown Edmonds (called "The Bowl") whereas Talbot Park is approximately 4 miles north of downtown. If you enjoy walking to shops, restaurants, cafes, theaters, etc. then Maplewood is clearly the better choice for location.

In addition to the Edmonds School District website, another great website for school information is http://www.k12.wa.us/. This website has a "report card" for the schools based on test scores and lots of other great school information.

For safety issues, I suggest you contact the police department directly for information that is of concern to you. Their phone number is 425-771-0200.

I hope this is helpful.

Welcome to town!
