We're considering a house on Main Street in Port Monmouth section of Middletown but it has a swale in the front yard.

What is the challenge to having this in yard? I've never seen one on private property before. We are worried about water seeping into the house.

Andrea,

I'm sorry it has taken this long for anyone to answer your question.

In my experience typically a "swale" runs throughout a coummunity of homes and if the township did it's job, it should not affect any individual home.

In the communities within which I serve, swales are commonplace and I must admit that the homes surrounded by such swales are not affected by water seepage into the homes provided they were structured property. Therefore, I must say, that you are justified in being concerned, but this should not dissuate you from buying the home of your dreams . . . however, it will require additional due diligence.

Should you desire to speak in depth about this matter, please feel free to contact me direct.

Love and Peace,
