Based on school grades, Dr. Phillips High tops Lake Nona. It is established and has
built a great reputation and appeal over the years.

Hello, Gary! Have you made your big move yet?

Hi Gary,

My wife and I lived in England for 6 years in the 1990's. We had a wonderful time there, but let's face it the weather in the UK is pretty lousy. If you want to sell your wife on the idea, don't come in July, come in the middle of winter.

Good luck.

Thanks Michael, I am all for making the move, i couldn't be anymore for it. It is just the wife, who still needs convincing.

I'm sure if we could get to stay a few nights in one of these communities during our up and coming vacation, it would go a long way to convince the wife that it's going to be the best thing ever. And we wont ever look back.

Keep trying to get noticed on the uk tv program, a place in the sun, but all to no avail ;( Again, something like that would be ideal to push my wife into making the decision to move.

Many people from the UK have chosen to purchase homes in the Waterford Lakes,Celebrations, Lake Nona, Harmony, and Windermere communities. All the above offer spacious homes at great values and a ton of community amenities.

I have had the pleasure of working with home buyers from the UK purchasing homes in Harmony, Celebrations and Waterford Lake. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Still cannot decide between Dr Phillips, Lake Nona and now Windermere.....

We are visiting Florida again this year, from 16 July for nearly 3 weeks. And we hope to visit some of these areas.

Does anyone know if there are any houses in any of these areas that we may stay in for a few days? We could then get a good feel for the place

Hope someone can help...

Windermere has just been voted the best place to live in Florida.

Hi Gary!! Do you have a Realtor? I can help you.

Hi Gary, I'm re-reading these posts and I just had to laugh... Alan Martin is the realtor I used when I bought my home here in Florida and he did a great job giving me all the info I needed to make my decision on where to buy and what to do... I highly recommend him if this is your first purchase in the US!
ps; Lake Nona is good for investment but it is known as "medical city" because all the influx is locals working for the Hospital or for the Clinics there (ideal if you just want to invest or if you are in that line of work). Dr. Phillips is an established area with older and smaller homes that will always hold their value... Bay Hill is just next to Dr Phillips and that is where all the NBA stars and the famous golfers live.
like I said before, we live in Dr Phillips because of the proximity to everything (aquatic, Disney, Restaurant row, Downtown,...) and the good schools!!!! I'd be more than happy to show you around or have you over for a Bbq when you're here... my details are in an earlier post... if you use REALTOR.COM or ZILLOW to look for a home, you'll be able to see the school zones, how good these schools score,... and the proximity to shops or nightlife, restaurants, ... just keep in mind that "gas"= petrol is $3.29 a GALLON!!!

Hi Gary,

I am a Realtor living in Lake Nona and I came to the US from Britain in 2007. I will be delighted to share my experience with you.

Lake Nona is without doubt the best area for investing in a home right now, but prices are really increasing at a very fast pace.

Let me know how I can be of help or whether you want me to send you listings that may be of interest.

Best for 2013!

Hi Gary
I work with a lot of Brits and I have lived in the UK before moving here. I live in Dr. Phillips and can personally say my family love it here.
I can put you in touch with a very good local realtor and when you have made an offer on a home, I'd be happy to do the all important home inspection for you.

I just helped a young couple purchase a new home in Lake Nona, and they are so happy with the area! This area is exploding with growth and will for a while with the New Veterans Administration Hospital, Nemours Childern's hospital, the Medical School and many other projects that are growing.

Sent me an email, and I will assist you in your home search!

Live in Dr Phillips and have fun while waiting Lake Nona to grow more! Life is short!.
After all, a good investment is a house with immediate equity anywhere.

Call me if you need to find a home not a house!

Hello Gary;

Both are great areas with lots to offer, yet completely different life styles.
Lake Nona is getting lots of attention lately, but Dr Phillips has more variety. I own a property there as well.

Hello Gary,
There are many homes either in Dr. Philips and Lake Nona and both are great areas to grow a family. The schools in Dr. Philips are one of the best in Orlando and the one in Lake Nona is very good and newer. Dr. Philiph has a little bit more of the feel you want, there are many more restaurants and shops where to go, more similar to Europe but still American.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Sincere Regards

Gary, this question comes up so often that I've written a blog on the topic: http://www.trulia.com/blog/mark_lemenager/2012/09/windermere…

If high school for the girls is a prime factor, then Lake Nona's advantage is Valencia College right next door to the high school. The set up is designed so that students can graduate from high school with a significant amount of college credit already under their belts.

Did you know that you can check out my references and the references of the other agents that answer right here on Trulia? Just click on our pictures to go to our profiles and read what our clients say about us. Pick the person you’d be most comfortable to work with. Of course I hope it’s me, but if not then best of luck to you.

Love to help you out in Eagle Creek if that is what is best for you. Remember my advice -- never buy directly from the builder. Get someone on your side.

Hi Gary H,
Thanks for turning to Trulia for all of your real estate questions.
You'll get alot of great answers from alot of great agents!

As far as the answer to this question.....
Personally, I love the Dr. Phillips area! It is full of great schools, shopping, restaurants and minutes from the attractions. The homes there are beautiful!
Lake Nona is a mecca for the new Medical City slated to open in mid to late October!
It is a little slower pace and also boasts some really beautiful homes.

First things first, find an agent that you are comfortable with. After that things will fall into place.

If you need help or just want to ask more questions....feel free to let me know.

Thanks for the replies, with having 2 teenage daughters, how does Dr Phillips High School compare to Lake Nona High School? This is one of the most important factors in our ultimate decision.

Also, do both of these communities have low crime rate? Do gated communities make a real difference?

A new home in Eagle Creek caught our eye.

You can check by location.
Dr. Phillips is 32836
Lake Nona is 32832

I know Dr. Phillips High School is A rated.
Flag Wed Sep 19, 2012
Dave and Patty,

Both areas are good. Dr Phillips has a lot of restaurants and is close to Disney.
Lake Nona is the fastest growing area in Orlando, especially due to Medical City.
My advice, as someone who lives in Lake Nona and comes from the UK is: follow your gut feeling!!!
