Asked by Npalicha, New York, NY Sun Sep 8, 2013

We currently live in Nutley, NJ. Need recommendations for towns with easy commute to NYC ( within 1 hr 30 mins). We are looking for a single family house in good school districts.

Help the community by answering this question:

Did you look into Millburn, Summit, Chatham, New Providence, Livingston? But again ... a lot depends on the price range and a size of the house you are looking for.
Call me to discuss this further.

Thank you all for answering my question. Adding some more information so you can give me better advice

We love Nutley and have been living in the area for almost 8 years. We currently own a town house and are looking to move to a single family. Since we are making the move i want to check out the towns which may have a better school district compared to Nutley.
I am commuting to NYC midtown from Nutley currently and it takes me 1 hr door - to - door (off peak without traffic).
I am keeping 1 and half hr as my top limit for commuting door to door.
Important things that matter to us

* Good school
* Good Rec activities offered by town
* bus service to school (would prefer)
* easy access to bus/train

Hi Npalicha,

I could help you find several towns within 1 hour or less of NYC with great school systems. My next question to you is what price point are you considering? Also, how many beds and baths at a minimum? Is there anything else important to you about the house or community that you move to next?

Please feel free to reach out to me directly and I would be happy to help!

Hi Npalicha,
My name is Stephanie Cole and I would love to help you further with you and your family's needs if your not already working with an agent. I am a full service, full time agent that is available to answer questions or concerns. I can work the whole state of New Jersey and anywhere in the world but I do much of my business in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties. New Jersey as you know is a great place to live and raise a family so I need to know if you would prefer to stay in Essex County or have you looked into moving out of that area? I have found over the years Monmouth County has a healthy population of commuters because of the closeness to the cities, the top state high schools are located in Monmouth County, Freehold Regional School District is one of the state's best districts for public schools and Monmouth County has so much to offer what any buyers needs could be.

I understand public transportation is important for you and your family, good school with busing and activities to have quality family time. The range in Monmouth County as far as lifestyle, property needs and personal needs I would say is endless. I have added some links so you can decide for yourself if you would like to move into another area!!

Hope this helped with out knowing to much of your needs and wants.

Government Websites to each of the counties I predominantly work in.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Personally I would recommend Edison or Woodbridge. Taxes are reasonable and theirs a wide range of property values so your sure to find one in any range you are in. Schools are rated high and with the metro park train station its a strait shot into NYC with no change overs.

Good luck.

It would really depend on your price range. If you are looking for good schools in an area that is within a 90 minute commute to NY the town favorites my buyers look to buy in are Holmdel, Marlboro, Manalapan, Colts Neck, or Freehold. Monmouth County overall is a nice place to live and is centrally located in NJ. If you need more information or assistance feel free to give me a call

We moved FROM Nutley (Center Street) and have enjoyed this area ever since. Slightly over an hour by train, also the Ferry is available. We drove to NY last Wednesday and it took us one hour and ten minutes, but it seemed to be light traffic that day. HERE IS A SCHOOL LINK YOU MAY FIND HELPFUL

Homes are available in all price ranges, you can go to my site to search for mls properties: http://www.karenblackbourn.com To the right of my name, "Real Estate Quick Search"

If you are okay with a train or bus commute, there are towns in Essex and Morris county that fit your criteria: Livingston, Millburn, Morris Plains, Parsippany, are just a few. You can check out the links below for more specifics regarding the schools.

Monmouth County is a great spot to start your search. It offers great schools, lots of county parks for hiking and biking, Rivers and Bays for boating and fishing, the shore for swimming, and an extensive arts community. Middletown is a great choice because if offers all of those amenities! Commuting to the city is a breeze whether you are driving in or taking the train, bus, or ferry. Here is a good site to refer to for information on specific Monmouth County schools:

I would love an opportunity to talk with you more about your specific needs. Please feel free to contact me.

You should also consider Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver and Atlantic Highlands. Take a look at my blogs for each of those towns (click on "Advice" and then "Blogs" for each of the towns) and read about the 4 key, objective real estate indicators in each town.

All 4 of these towns have great schools. Since you already live in New Jersey, I assume you're familiar with the way the state Department of Education rates school districts, i.e. ASK (Assessment of Skills and Knowledge) scores and DFGs (District Factor Groups). If not, I can send you the links to the state web sites. Suffice it to say that Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School is consistently rated as one of the top 10 public high schools in the state, and the elementary schools in all 4 towns have high ASK scores. In what grades are your children?

There are train stations in Little Silver and Red Bank (the schedules are on the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast Line http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0080.pdf) and the high speed ferry leaves from Atlantic Highlands and Highlands (the schedules are at SeaStreak http://www.seastreak.com/highlandsconners.aspx).

You have lots of great choices here in Monmouth County- come down and take a look!

I would certainly recommend Middletown, NJ. You are easily within a 1 hour commute to NYC on the train or bus, both of which have stops in Middletown. In addition, the school districts here are among the top in the county. You are only 15 mins to the beach and even less than that to cute downtown areas like Red Bank, which offers tons of great restaurants and shopping. Please contact me if you'd like to speak further or get more information. My email is river.giberson@gmail.com
