Home Buying in Rocky Hill>Question Details

Denise, Home Seller in Howell, MI

We are relocating to Ct...will be working in Rocky Hill. Can anyone suggest nice towns in the area (schools?

Asked by Denise, Howell, MI Thu Dec 18, 2008

are important, conveniences too). Also we would rather not travle north of Rocky Hill as there will be frequent travel to NJ as well. Also, a referral for a knowledgeable attentive realtor would be very helpful!

If you are ever looking for a really good realtor, Jeff Coleman is excellent, he works for Hagel realty I believe out of Cromwell CT. We used him and he's also very nice.

It's interesting that of all of the agents that provided you with "answers", not a single one of them told you of this site: http://www.ct.gov

That site contains a wealth of information, including comprehensive reviews of the school systems throughout the entire state, school budgets, breakdowns for non-english as a primary language, special needs, etc....

It also has everything you would need to know about mill rates for taxes. If you use Google, you can search out the web site of just about any town and can use the town-specific site to get the assessed values of specific homes you might be interested in to understand the taxes that would go with that property.

The best school systems in the state are in the Southwest corner and North and West of Hartford. Some of the outlying towns are pretty good - but you have to do your own research to understand how the schools measure up on those statistics that are important to you.

Hope that helps.

As far as school systems, I recommend that you visit http://www.greatschools.net which is a website that has information on all schools in CT.

Towns? That is a personal preference. I can however recommend you visit http://www.rivervalleybook.com which is a publication that can give you a good look at each of the towns in the Glastonbury, Rocky Hill area. There are also links to other areas like West Hartford and the Farmington Valley.

Hope this helps....Want a tour??? Let me know.

Denise, I think a good place to start are these sites..http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Rocky_Hill-Connecticut/com… This info from Trulia will give you many links to the area for information on schools ect..

This site..http://www.bhgrealestate.com/Views/Look/Default.aspx
will provide you with school info, housing trends, prices, crime statistics, community info, all based on public records. You can research by city, zip code or neighborhood..

You are the one who will have to determine if an agent is knowlegible, so becoming as informed as possible is important.
Hope these links help, Dunes

Hi Denise,
I work based in the Southington and work out of Rocky Hill alot. I have family in NJ (Paterson and Woodbridge)and make very frequent trips myself. You are correct in thinking you need to be south west of Rocky Hill. You really don't want to be across the Ct River (glastonbury, portland for examples) either for commuting principles. Rocky Hill is smack dab in the center of CT. From there you have access to all the major highways; 91, 84, merritt so you can travel in all directions fairly easily. If I'm correct you come from a more rural area in NJ. Is this something you'd like to find in CT? There are alot of nice communities in Ct; it all depends on what your looking for.
I agree http://www.greatschools.net is the perfect site for the stats. I know for a fact that Southington School system has a 98% graduation rate, the top sports program along with top special learning needs programs,Ymca programs, theater groups etc...

The taxes in Ct are much lower than NJ. The highways are less congested and in 1 1/2 hours you can be in Manhattan. The Shore line of Ct is also a beauty and within 1 hrs drive you can be at some of the most beautiful beaches.
I have included some properties in a 20 mile spand; take a look and let me know what you think.....

I can help you find what you are looking for and assist thru your families process....

Happy Holidays

There are several nice towns to live in that are convenient to Rocky Hill. On my website there are some links to information on CT schools. Wethersfield is the next town over, has many interesting shops, is very close to a few large malls. Cromwell and West Hartford are a nice towns too, but my opinion doesn't really count here. I would suggest you look at the CT.gov website and some of the individual town sites to see which has the services and amenities that are important to you and your family. The price range you are looking in could have a big impact on which town wind up in.
If you would like to start getting some listings by e-mail, I would be happy to help you determine where would suit you and your family best. WE could start with a broad search that includes several towns, then narrow it down as you get a feel for which ones you like better than others. As you look at the listings for the different towns, you will also get a feel for which ones will have the higher, or lower, taxes.
I can be reached at (800) 525-7793x1002, danross@c21-accessamerica.com, or through my website. I look forward to helping you and your family find your next home!

Enfield is a real nice town. Little to no crime. Convenient to Hartford CT and Springfield MA (about 10 minutes to each). Only about 20 minutes from Rocky Hill. It has really good schools. I am selling my home here if interested email me at budrusty@aol.com (FSBO)
A real good realtor is Alicia Albert at Century 21 Alaimo (in Enfield)
