To me it seems a little crazy to limit yourself that way. There is nothing wrong with slab foundations if they are done right, but there aren't very many around here. It looks to me like there aren't a lot of homes to see in Arden Hills. How many slab homes are you going to find there? It comes down to what you get for the money. If you find a house with a basement that has everything you want, at a good price, why wouldn't you buy it?
Since slab construction is less common here(except for townhomes) I think they are harder to sell. Myself, I start wondering things like "how do I access plumbing pipes for repair if they freeze?" or "what happens if I want to upgrade wiring or ad heating ducts for an addition someday?" It's also nice to have a utility room that doesn't eat up valuable main floor space. What about a place for storage or a little shop or hobby room?
Okay, so I'm a born and raised Minnesotan, but there are a few of us out there who think this way.
Jane, Good luck with your house hunting.
