Love the beach but I don't want to get washed away. We also have a 10 year old so we need great schools.

I would say Fort Lauderdale. Really nice place to live, beautiful beaches and lots of things to do. I could refer you to an experienced Agent working in that area. They will be able to provide you with valuable insight on schools and guild you through the buying process. Send me your contact info to Tjackson@c21mm.com

Lee county has a great school system. We have school choice, so you can choose different magnet schools or even charter schools. If you don't live on the beach, you don't get washed away :)
Seriously, I have lived ion the west coast of Florida for my entire life and have never been in a catostrophic storm. Fort Myers is close to both Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel beach. both are gorgeous. Sanibel is frequently in the top 10.

All depends on where you want to be in Florida. Florida is a HUGE state with plenty of choices. Basing on the school component, this should be able to assist you:
