The Hudson Valley is a great place, and you have to decide for yourself what area works best for you.
If you are a commuter, you will want to be near public transportation, or within minutes to major routes. Also, the lifestyle you desire, whether its skiing, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the
country life. You may want to search out the schools, shopping, and restaurants in the area. Here in
Orange County, there's something for everyone.

Hi Rob, It really depends on what is most important to you, your lifestyle, needs, etc...Do you have a commute to the city or local. The farther north you go the more you will get for your money, especially in Orange County and Upstate but you also lose amenities and conveniences.

You decide for yourself where the best is. Deciding factors may be commute, schools, shopping, entertainment and friends. Good luck

There are many great places to live in both counties. If you like the River, then Nyack is a river town. If you like nature and hiking, then Sloatsburg is great for that with Seven Lake Drive and Harriman State Park. And so on ... Contact me for more info! Dominic

Hi Rob,

Rockland and Orange Counties are varied and offer many beautiful towns and hamlets. Depending upon your interests, hobbies, commuting time, and price point, some areas may be more attractive to you. Our company works with a lot of families relocating to Rockland and Orange counties. We have developed county maps that demonstrate the various school districts within the counties and which towns are located in those districts. If you are interested in obtaining these maps, feel free to contact me. We have done numerous area tours for relocating employees so that they could get a feel for the various towns and their locations.

In any case. Welcome north. Good luck with your home search.

Hi Rob --

Gosh, tall order, lol!

To elaborate on Anna's very thoughtful reply, bear in mind Orange County encompasses 839 square miles (accordingto wikipedia!) and Rockland 199 square miles. Additionally, not only are the identities of the two counties very different, but you'll also discover different vibes and flavors from town to town, due in part to their founding dates from pre-Revolutionary colonial burgs to turn of the century Industrial influence.

While a good start would be a quick search on YouTube, you really would need to dedicate some off-time to exploring the environs.

Also, how do you define "best"? I didn't intend it as a trick question, lol! It would be extremely helpful if you and if there are any other decision-makers, kick around a list of what is important to you, ranked by priority. From that list you can then do some googling to discover which towns best match your criteria. Now that you have a short list to work from, you and your realtor can really zoom in on finding the right home for you.

Hope this proved helpful :-)

Hello Rob, As a well qualified Realtor in Rockland/Orange Counties that is a somewhat difficult question as there are MANY areas that fit. There are no real Cities in the suburbs here, rather towns and villages. The School systems(if needed) are of overall superior quality. Please get in towuch with me at your earlies convenience and dependent of your needs(House/Townhouse/Condo, Price Point, Bedrooms,Bathrooms, etc) I will send you alot of listings that can work for you. Most of my clients that are coming from Brooklyn(see your zip code) try to stay in Rockland to cut down about 30+ minutes of commuting. My information is below and I look forward to your response. You have many choices, however much will depend on your budget, wants, needs, lifestyle, etc.; what exactly does best mean to you--is communiting a factor, public transportation, do you prefer an area with quiet streets or a busier and active area, what about amenities, parks, schools, etc. Consider taking the time and explore the counties of interest in person, drive around and look at everything that's important to you, then make a determination, where will your comfort level best be reached....
