I have been a realtor in the Redding area for the past 37 years. There has been little or no new construction in Redding, other than custom building, over the past several years because of the drop in prices and the competition with short sales and foreclosures. Currently resales are ranging on or about $170-$200/sq.ft. If considering new construction, location would be key to ensure that you're not overbuilding for the area. Redding is very unique, there are very few subdivisions so it's a case by case situation that has to be analyzed. Hopefully you find this information helpful. Hi rkhjr2008,

Depending on style, amenities and finishes the costs can vary widely from roughly $200 to $450 a sq. ft. If you go the modular route, the costs can decrease dramatically. Some of the other variables might be needed site work, utilities including water and electric etc.

Look at the newer construction in the area, find homes you like and go to Town Hall to see who built them. That way to can deal with folks whose work you like and who have built in the area.

Good luck,
Jay
