What's next? How can I help? Why could this be happening?

So the listing agent lost contact with their client after getting the listing agreement signed? That does make it difficult to present any offers.... sorry, I don't have any thing to offer by way of help. It could be that the sellers have simply moved and are not going to deal with the short sale and just let the property go back to the lender... who knows.... Are you trying to buy this house? please give me more details and maybe I can give a clearer answer!!
