Springfield Ave - as town to raise family?

Asked by Sonia, Clark, NJ Tue Nov 10, 2009

Hello, I want to know about Springfield. Our search has spread all over Union county from Clark to Summit and in between came Springfield and these is this house around "Redwood Rd" area that we like and the block looks great. Our concerns are - Flooding issues in that area, Schools, this area in general to raise small kids and in general appreciation of homes? How are Day care centers around? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Dear Sonia,
I have been a resident of Springfield for over 14 years and I would like to tell you that in my opinion it is an excellent place to live, raise a family with a good school system.
We have wonderful parks in town and we are close to Watchung reservation.
Very friendly and wonderful place to live.
It is also very conveniently located to all major highways and close to pretty much everything from NYC to shopping centers.
There are plenty of nice areas besides Redwood Rd., for instance area by Irwin Park is also very very nice.
If you have more questions or would like a free tour around town, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best of luck.

Hi Sonia,

There has been tremendous activity in Springfield in the past 6 months. It's a very attractive town for families who don't want the high tax burden of Essex county. The price range of the homes, coupled with the federal home buyers tax credit of $8000 has really helped Springfield. People are generally happy with the schools and there are a number of daycare options. There are also organizations, such as Mothers & More that are very active and a great resource for any questions you may have about living in the area with kids. I'd be happy to send you information about the town and a list of homes in your price range. There might be some flood zones, but there are a number of great neighborhoods that are not vulnerable to that. Call or email me if you'd like to explore these areas!

Good luck,
Best regards,

Hi Sonia:
I think you have reason to be concern with flood issues in Springfeld, Although I really like the town and schools, but some parts are in a high risk flood zone, I suggest calling your insurance agent to check the flood maps and determine which zone the house is located at.. good luck to you with your search
