What are the commuting options from Sparta to NYC? Is there a train or a direct bus line? How long does it take?

Yes there is bus service to NYC. Lakeland Bus Lines has commuter service to NYC from Sparta that goes to the Port Authority. There are several stops along the way but you do not have to changes buses. Scheduled service is less than 1hr 20 min to NYC but it can take much longer on bad days. I used this service for years. Check out their web site at Lakelandbus.com.

Drive - it's an hour and half into the city if you leave Sparta at 6am and park at Port Authority or other west side lot.

Bus - Lakeland Bus from Police Station. Leave at 6am or 6:30. 6am bus gets you into Port Authority around 7:15.

Train - Forget it. Too long and too many twists/turns. You have to pay to park, it's a longer commute, but there is the upside of having a restroom.

There is no train station in Sparta and the Park & Ride bus will only get you to Parsippany. Most people either drive down Rt. 15 to the Rockaway Mall (about a 20 minute ride on a good day) and take the NJ Transit bus or they drive to either the Dover Train Station or the Mt. Arlington Train Station and take the train into the city. The schedules can be found at this website: http://www.njtransit.com/hp/hp_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=Hom…
