mortgage company on the county records is listed as the 'Grantor', I've found, no longer exists. The 'Grantee' is MERS, Inc. which I called and had given them the pin #, they've no info on this property. What steps do I need to take if I wanted to purchase this property? The home is delapitate, lawn overgrown, windows blown out, not livable....but, I've found there's still electricity going to the house.

did you ever figure this out? I am interested in something similar. But MERS is shady, goodness knows if that property can be useful.

if the taxes have not been paid - then the county may currently own it or some one may have bought it in tax sale and it has not be recorded yet. Call the county again or try this attorney: Larry Lusk at 312-327-3409 or llusk@mbflegal.com.
