There is a garbage dump in Alviso, not very far. I sold a home on North Abbott right near Calaveras/880 (not too far from the great mall) and you could definitely smell something from the deck! This was around August and it seemed worse on hot days.

I never actually tracked down the source but I have heard it is the Alviso dump and it depends on the way the wind is blowing. My clients (who used to live in the house that I sold) said that it was only occasionally that they could smell it. It was a pretty bad smell though.

Yes.Some area in Milpitas that has smell for 3 months each years. If you buy a propery that li located east of 680 or south of great mall that will be fine.
Maybe try north valley that is good too.
I have two escrow will be closed in next week in Milpitas.

Hi Newbie,
I don't have first hand knowledge of this, but I have a few clients who bought near there and they did not mention a " smell " to me and I have been in contact with them. I have heard that once in a great while if the wind is right there is a smell coming from the Alvsio area. As I said I don't know this first hand, if I were you I would go to this area at different times of the day and smell for yourself. Personally I would think the train noise right near there would be a bigger factor.
