Renting out a BMR Unit in San Francisco

Asked by astroboy246, San Francisco, CA Wed Jan 9, 2013

If you buy a BMR unit in San Francisco are you not allowed to rent/sublet it out under any circumstance? e.g. job relocation, moving in a few months after you purchase etc?
what are the rules on this?

No, owner-occupied only. The resale price will also be restricted when you try to sell in the future. The program is designed to create affordable housing, not to generate any income.

You cannot rent out a BMR per city rules.

I believe the rules are pretty clear - BMR units are to be owner-occupied only:

"BMR units are intended to be owner-occupied at all times and used as a principal residence for the duration of ownership."

Here's the link for the BMR program:

Does any body know the penalty of BMR unit owner getting caught renting out the unit? Did they just get a warning or they didn't get to keep their unit?
