Relocating to New Orleans. Can you recommend neighborhoods for family with two children under 3?

Asked by roscoemom, New Orleans, LA Mon Oct 1, 2012

Would love a walkable area of the city. Looking for a move-in-ready home with 3 or 4 bedrooms around $400k. We are aware that we will probably have to pay for school. Thanks.

Lakeview would be your best bet. There are several good private schools as well as a new charter school. The neighborhoods are nice to walk around, as well as walking along Harrison Avenue where there are shops, restuarants, and cafe's. I would be happy to email you some great listings in this area. The Uptown area is also a possibility for you. Email me at gkimball@kw.com for listings. Gretchen Kimball, Keller Williams Realty- New Orleans, http://www.buymyneworleanshome.com

It depends upon your sensibilities ! Uptown is lovely and near Audubon Park with the zoo and wonderful picnic and playground possibilities . $400,000 won't buy a big house uptown but 3 bedrooms is doable . The lakefront is very nice and quieter than uptown . Lakeshore and Lake Vista are child friendly and comfortable with newer housing than uptown . The suburbs are nice and the edgier areas are OK but maybe you not want the French Quarter or Lower Garden District with 2 babies . Call me and I'll be delighted to show you a crosssection of the city . I've lived in several different areas and I have friends or family in almost every area of the city ! I am with Remax N.O. Properties and have many years of experience .
