Racism in McKinney? Been thinking about relocating there with my family, but my main concern is if we would be truly accepted by the community

Asked by Mr.combat1, McKinney, TX Mon Feb 11, 2013

I live in Southern California, and diversity was never a problem.

Help the community by answering this question:

I also Relocated from California (San Francisco) and that was also my biggest fear. I am hispanic and I was scared that "others" would view my family and I as uneducated, non English speaking illegals. To my surprise Texas has been a welcoming mat for us. I moved to Mckinney which is very diversified. My neighbors to my right are African , neighbors to left are American, other neighbors are middle Eastern, Italian,Greek and so on. You will never ever meet the nicest people in California like you would in Texas !!!! it was so weird to us that we thought everyone had hidden agendas lol !!!! I love Texas !!!

I find that this part of Texas seems to be fairly balanced when it comes to issues like racism

Other than the occasional beheading for not keeping your grass cut in Stonebridge Ranch, I have not experienced or heard of racial problems in McKinney. Many of our clients, including ourselves, are from Southern California.

let us know if we can help.

depends on what side of mckinney you want to live in. im searching for a home in mckinney too. i have found out that all schools around old downtown mckinney are 65-75% hispanic. i dont think mckinney has any more or less racism than anywhere else.

Mr. Combat 1,
I don't know that you would run into any issues at all. What makes you think this might be the case? I like the comment below from Tom - "we are the melting pot of the south" - I think it's a pretty fair statement. We not only have residents from different ethnic backgrounds, but also of different religious backgrounds, different lifestyle choices, and different economic backgrounds. This is the case not only in McKinney, but also in the surrounding communities.

I think you will LOVE it here in Texas.

This link was an article written by CNN Money in 2010 outlining why McKinney is in the Top 5 places to live in the US. Under stats it provides a range of information, you may have to click on "see more information" at the bottom. But this information should provide you with pretty good information regarding McKinney.

Please let me know if you would like for me to send you some properties to preview. I look forward to hearing from you.

Probably not the same here as in SoCal, but racism is everywhere, here, there, and other countries.
I'm reading a book now about an English guy walking the amazon and many of the tribes he runs into think he is a baby eater when he comes in....based on rumors.
It's changing...not uncommon for schools to have 50-60-80 different languages spoken now.
Neighborhoods generally aren't know for being this or that, but there's always stupid people around I think no matter where in the world you go.

You can search for homes in McKinney at this link.

McKinney is becoming more diverse every day. When I first moved here 16 years ago, that wasn't necessarily the case. But now, my neighborhood has just about every ethnicity! Love it! Being an interracial family ourselves, we are sensitive to the issue, and would never want to put our children in a bad situation. They all have had great experiences so far in school.

Hope that helps!

McKinney is a wonderful place to live! I used to live in California and I relocated here without any issues. We are very diverse and in fact, Dallas is quite similar to Los Angeles.
