Property tax on multi-family houses

Asked by xigua, North Bergen, NJ Mon Sep 10, 2012

I recently went to see a condo that was one unit of a multi-family house. I was told that the owner did the paper work on this multi-family so the units in this multi-family house can be sold seperately. The house hasn't been restructured at all. My question is it seems like the total property tax on the units NOW is way higher than the multi-family house. Why is that???

The town needs money.
There is slightly more work involved for the town.
I have a deal like that right now in Elmwood Park.

I am not saying the property tax is too high. I am wondering if property tax always becomes much higher when a multi-family house converted to condos in paper. Is that true?
